Since 1957, we've evolved from a Bethnal Green garage operation, where testing kettles was our bread and butter, to a formidable force for consumer protection.

The first ever issue of Which? was delivered to homes in autumn 1957, and we set out our aspirations: ‘Where we find something bad, we shall say so; but we shall hope more frequently to find something good.’

Today, Which? is the UK’s consumer champion. As an organisation we’re not for profit and all for protecting consumers – a powerful force for good, here to make life simpler, fairer and safer for everyone.

Through rigorous research that gets to the core of pressing consumer issues to our impartial advice that guides daily choices and, our tireless campaigning that influences policy and industry for the better — we're here to make positive change happen.

Our work is primarily funded by member subscriptions and endorsements of outstanding products and services. Businesses that meet our strict testing criteria may, for a fee, use our endorsement for promotion. We also earn commissions from retailer sites for featured products or services. Independence is our cornerstone; we remain uninfluenced by third parties and the promise of freebies.

Above all, our focus is on championing the consumer. We're their ally, advocating tirelessly and empowering them to be more powerful.
