About the role

We are seeking an exceptional Group People Director to help shape the future of our organisation.  You will be a key member of the Leadership Team, reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with senior colleagues to shape and deliver a progressive, future-focused people agenda.

This is a rare opportunity to lead across a broad functional remit with a focus on organisational design, cultural transformation, reward strategy development, and workplace experience.  Ensuring our organisation is future-ready in a rapidly changing world, including the opportunities and challenges of emerging technologies such as Generative AI.

This is a highly visible role in championing our values, driving forward equity, diversity and inclusion, and acting as the Leadership Team sponsor for one of our employee network groups and the sustainability working group.

What you'll be doing

Strategic People Leadership

  • Develop and implement a group-wide people strategy aligned with our organisational goals (delivered through an OKR framework) and values.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Leadership Team on organisational development, succession planning, and workforce capability.
  • Lead on reward strategy, engaging with key stakeholders including the Remuneration Committee and Council.

Culture, Change and Capability

  • Drive culture change programmes that support delivery of our 2030 ambitions.
  • Build leadership capability and a high-performance culture through talent development, succession planning, and workforce planning.
  • Champion equity, diversity, inclusion, wellbeing, and employee engagement at every level.

Workplace Experience and Operations

  • Lead the Workplace Experience function, ensuring high-quality facilities, positive office environments, and effective management of other tenants in our London headquarters.
  • Oversee all HR operations, policies, and services, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and employee-centred design.
  • Ensure core people functions (people partnering, recruitment, reward, talent, EDI, wellbeing, people operations) are delivered to a high standard.

Team Leadership

  • Inspire, develop and lead a high-performing team across People and Workplace Experience.
  • Set clear priorities, foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, and support ongoing development and growth.

About You

We're looking for a director level HR leader who combines strategic vision with operational expertise, and who thrives in complex environments.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience in a director level People/HR role, ideally with some experience in a unionised environment.
  • Experience of leading in a complex environment.  There are two active organisations in the Which? group which operate under the single brand - Which?  This combination of organisations who have charitable and commercial goals adds a level of complexity to the structure and governance of the organisation.  
  • Proven track record of leading organisation-wide change, including organisational design and cultural transformation.
  • Strong understanding of workforce trends and the future of work, including the impact of AI and automation.
  • Excellent leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to operate confidently at Council/Board and executive level.
  • Passion for purpose-led organisations and alignment with our values.
  • Ideally, some experience overseeing workplace or facilities functions.

    Strong ethical judgment and commitment to organisational values.
  • Ability to work effectively with unions and/or staff forums.

The interview process for this role involves

  • Pre-Interview call with Resourcing Partner
  • 90-minute virtual Interview  
  • 2 x F2F interview (at our London Office). Part of an interview will involve playback of a pre-interview task/presentation we'd ask candidates to complete ahead of Interview 
  • 45-60-minute reverse interview with direct reports from the team
