This role offers a competitive salary, hybrid working (Mondays and at least one other day a week in our Central London office), 28 days holiday a year plus Bank Holidays and a fantastic pension scheme offering 6% in year one and 11% after this.

Salary £85,000 - £95,000 per annum

 About the role

Lead and manage our team of expert economists, data analysts, data scientists and quantitative and qualitative researchers to design and deliver a robust programme of multi and mixed-methods research which supports and underpins our policy and advocacy work to drive positive change for and with consumers. 

Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues who are experts in policy, campaigning, public and external affairs to ensure that our research is aligned with the strategic aims of the organisation and shapes policy positions, drawing on an excellent understanding of consumer behaviour, sound economics and relevant areas of public policy. Ensure all outputs are analytically sound, robust and compelling to build effective influence. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Proactively identify critical research questions and ways to fulfil strategic evidence needs. Work with Policy Heads and the Head of External Affairs and Campaigns to design and develop the evidence that is required to inform Which?'s policy positions and support campaigns.
  • Manage, coach and develop the team. As a senior leader help embed high-performance practices across the wider Advocacy Group.
  • Ensure the Strategic Insight team's work reflects organisational priorities and is widely understood and used across the organisation.
  • Ensure research and insight outputs are clearly communicated and well-targeted to appropriate stakeholder audiences for maximum impact.
  • Promote analytical excellence. Lead the inception and delivery of creative and innovative research methods. 

About you:

  • A proven track record of initiating and leading innovative analytical projects to shape complex policy and strategic decisions.
  • Strong experience of leading a diverse and multidisciplinary team, with a proven track record of developing people and building analytical capability, proven coaching skills.
  • Ability to align deliverables to overarching strategy and build collaboration across diverse functions, roles and levels of seniority.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, demonstrated through the ability to convey complex information with clarity. 
  • Good understanding of policymaking processes across the UK, including the responsibilities of key regulators.

The interview process for this role involves:-

  • A preliminary call with the Head of Strategic Insight.
  • A 60-minute interview with both the Head of Strategic Insight and the Director of Policy and Advocacy, Chief Economist. Ahead of the  Interview, you will be asked to prepare two short responses (around 200 words each) to scenario questions to discuss in the interview. 
  • There may be an additional follow up meeting to clarify any points.
