About the role
Can you lead positive change for consumers in financial services?
At Which?, our policy team underpins the work we do to influence and shape consumer issues affecting each of us every day. As we expand our policy work to tackle ever more complex digital issues, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Policy Adviser to join us in the Money policy team.
What you'll be doing:
Which? Policy Advisers think strategically to get to the heart of complex issues, understand and anticipate the policy agenda and develop evidence based solutions that impact the lives of consumers for the better.
Which? is at the heart of key debates in financial services, including how to support people to access payments and use them safely, receive fair treatment when making insurance claims if the worst happens and to save for their retirement. This sees us engage with the government, parliament, regulators and the financial services industry. To maximise our impact we work with colleagues across Which? in research, economics, legal, campaigns and parliamentary affairs.
We're not afraid to call out harmful practices publicly and to stay the course to secure change. We recently secured the introduction of mandatory reimbursement for victims of bank transfer scams following an eight-year campaign. We also secured government proposals to regulate providers of buy-now pay-later products. Our End the Insurance Rip-off campaign, which we launched earlier this year, has already led the regulator to launch an investigation into the interest rates charged to people who pay for insurance monthly.
Reporting to the Principal Policy Adviser, you'll be a member of the Money policy team responsible for leading Which?'s work on pensions policy and contributing to policy development across Which?'s advocacy work on financial services - which includes insurance, payments and financial advice & guidance.
The role involves horizon scanning, contributing to policy strategy, reviewing regulatory proposals from government, identifying and filling evidence gaps, developing policy positions, writing policy reports and advocating Which? policy positions.
