Salary: £110,000 - £120,000 + Benefits 

Location: London/Hybrid (1 day per week in office Thursdays)

About the role:  

We are currently investing in modernising our content publishing platform and platform engineering and are looking for a Principal Product Engineer to help building our Technical strategy and architecture to help accelerate our journey and help us create a strong engineering culture.

This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to design scalable platforms that manage content creation, editing, publishing, and distribution. As a technical leader, you will mentor teams, drive innovation, and ensure the platform's alignment with business goals and emerging industry standards.

 You will provide overarching technical direction across multiple product squads, working closely with other Principal Product Engineers, Engineering Managers and Product Managers to support delivering impactful solutions.

You will become an expert in a number of business domains and contribute to strategy through the lens of product and technology. As one of our most capable technologists you will report into the Head Of Product Engineering and be a trusted strategic thinker.

What kind of work you'll do:

  • Working with Engineering peers to define and govern the technical direction, architecture, and quality standards for software development.Ensure performance, security, and fault tolerance across the development lifecycle.
  • Work with stakeholders to align OKRs, roadmaps, and delivery plans with organisational goals.
  • Drive engineering strategy, standards, tech roadmap and best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration, inclusion, and innovation, empowering squads to excel.
  • Play a key role in recruiting and mentoring diverse engineering talent to build exceptional teams.

About You:

  • Proven engineering experience in designing and building large-scale distributed systems, ideally in the content publishing or digital media domain
  • Experience working in an environment following a Cross-functional, Product-team or Squad operating model.
  • A proactive problem-solver who can engage with (internal and external) customers to understand requirements and find solutions to their problems.
  • Experienced in mentoring and coaching engineers
  • Strong expertise in technologies such as Headless CMS platforms (e.g., Contentful, Adobe Experience Manager), REST/GraphQL APIs, and microservices.
  • Expertise in full stack product development HTML, CSS, JavaScript and/or Typescript, API development. 
  • Expertise in UI rendering libraries and frameworks, e.g. React or Angular
  • Experience building infrastructure platforms for internal product  teams.
  • Experience using CDNs, such as AWS CloudFront
  • Experience in Infrastructure as Code solutions like Terraform
  • Deep understanding of content lifecycle management, including creation, approval, versioning, publishing, and analytics
  • Good understanding of SEO, metadata tagging and Search technologies.
  • Experienced working in an environment with business OKR's.

How might I progress my career?  

You can continue on the individual contributor  track and take on increasingly ambitious impactful problems with increasing span of ownership and influence by taking on a Distinguished Engineer role.  Alternatively you may swap to our management track and become an Engineering Manager with a progression route to Head of Engineering role.

Interview Process:  

  • Stage 1: Meet Head of Product Engineering via Google Meet (60 minutes)
    • Opportunity for you to learn more about the role, answer any questions you have, and provide some examples of providing technical direction across multiple teams and driving product outcomes through technology. 
  • Stage 2: System Design & Technical Interview via Google Meet (60 Mins) 
  • Stage 3: Leadership Interview covering Technical capabilities, leadership and Product knowledge  (60 Mins)
