This role offers a competitive salary, hybrid working, 28 days holiday a year plus Bank Holidays and 11% pension after one year of service.

About the role

Are you passionate about uncovering consumer harm and  driving change that will support consumers? Do you have the ability to think strategically and come up with evidence-based, innovative policy solutions? As part of the policy team at Which? you will have the opportunity to get to grips with the challenges facing consumers, work with teams across Which?, as well as a broad range of UK and international experts and stakeholders and shape  the way that governments and businesses support consumers navigating complex choices. Currently the role has a focus on how consumers will access and use energy in the years ahead and the EV charging infrastructure, but may change to focus on other consumer issues in the future.

The policy team is part of the Advocacy Group that includes a multidisciplinary group of experts including economists, researchers, data scientists, campaigners, external and public affairs experts. The advocacy group also works closely with other experts across Which? including investigative journalists. You can find examples of our policy and analytical work in our Policy and Insight website (https://www.which.co.uk/policy-and-insight).  We are also members of BEUC and Consumer International that give us access to the experience and knowledge of experts in other jurisdictions.

What you'll be doing: 

As an experienced Senior Policy Adviser, your policy work will underpin and support Which? ‘s advocacy and campaigns, working with committed colleagues across the wider organisation to deliver change that will make a real difference for UK consumers. We want you to think differently to get to the heart of complex issues, to understand the policy agenda and offer evidence based impactful solutions that consumers care about 

This role is currently focused on the changes needed to support consumers in the transition to net zero, including changes in how we access and use energy and the EV charging infrastructure but may change over time to focus on wider consumer rights issues.  

About you:

• Creativity, enthusiasm, inquisitiveness and the ability to quickly get to grips with issues and problem solve
• A passion for solving the challenges people face  and the drive to work with colleagues to make change happen
• Experience and enthusiasm for developing evidence based policy recommendations that effectively address consumer needs.
• A confident team player who can build effective internal and external relationships and who enjoys working in cross-disciplinary teams
• A passionate and skilled communicator and influencer who can clearly share complex information with a wide range of audiences, developing effective networks to support your work
• The ability to think strategically,  take ownership of your work, establish yourself as a recognised expert and manage your own workload, 
• An understanding of consumer issues, sustainability and /or energy markets 

Our interview process usually involves:

• An interview on Google Meet (approximately 45-90 minutes) consisting of a short prepared presentation and values and experience-based competency questions
